Pikes Peak Snowshoeing - February 3, 2007 : Tom in the purple jacket. Bob Broeking in the blue Marmot. Bob's son Ben in the black jacket. Bob's friend Mike in the camo. A 2.5 hour snowshoe and lunch hike at 12,000' up on the Pikes Peak Highway beginning at Glen Cove. Windy and fun.

Signal Butte - October 13, 2007 : Another easy hike with Bob. It took longer to drive to the trailhead than it did to reach the summit! We decided to go up via some boulder scrambling from the SE face. Easy, but steep. Came back down the easy trail that goes off the NE corner of the summit. Perhaps 500' elevation gain.

Dome Rock - 11-17-07 : A little 9 mile RT hikes into the wilderness area just south of Mueller State Park south of Divide, CO. The goal today was to hike out to Dome Rock and then up to the top. The hike was mostly along a hiker's trail that ran to the right side of the creek. Tough to hike for me as it was narrow and in many places footing was critical as you could fall 50'+ into the creek below. Took about 2 hours to get the base of Dome Rock. The "ascent" of the rock was a little hairy as there was no easy way up and we had not brought a rope. My hiking partner Bob has written a nice trip report which can be found here: http://whitespider.broeking.com/domerock2007.htm. All in all a nice day but I don't think I'll hike this trail again.

Uncompahgre Peak - 14,309' - 7-28-09 : I've not hiled a Colorado 14'er in several years. I have climbed 37 of the 54. Decided I needed to get out and exercise my recovering ankle. Selected Uncompahgre Peak near Lake City. It is the 6th highest in Colorado at 14,309' but it is all Class 1 with a touch of Class 2 in one small spot. Essentially, it's a nice day hike. I drove to the 4x4 trail head early in the morning and headed up the trail at 8 AM. Arrived at the summit at 10:45 after 3.85 miles and about 2900' elevation gain. It was a beautiful morning. Spent about 45 minutes on top and then headed down around 11:30 or so. Back to the car by 1:15. I've now climbed 38!

I recommend this 14er to anyone as it's one of the most scenic I have done.

Hermit Peak (13,350') and Rito Alto Peak (13,794') - August 4, 2009 : Drove to the top of Hermit Pass (almost to the top, road still closed due to snow about 1/4 mile from top) and then took a hike. First up was Hermit Peak at 13,350 which is just south of the pass. It was pretty easy and very scenic. The top of the pass is 13,000' so it was only a few hundred feet vertical. Back down to the pass and then hike north to Rito Alto Peak at 13,794'. That's pretty darn close to 14,000! Both peaks were great. Rito Alto was a bit harder but not too hard at all. It has a summit register so I signed. Back to the car in a little over 3:15 elapsed. Took over 1.5 hours to go back down the 8 miles on the road to Westcliffe. Home by 7:15.

Culebra Peak - 14,047 - August 7, 2009 : Culebra Peak is the only Colorado 14'er on private land. You must obtain permission and then pay $100 to hike this peak. On principle I hated to pay but it is one of the peaks I really wanted to climb for more than 10 years. Not as easy as I thought it would be, but not a hard one nonetheless.

Badito Cone - Saturday, August 15, 2009 : A nice hike up to an old volcanic plug. Called the Badito Cone. Only 8945' and we started just around 7000' to climb. Not quite 5 hours to do the whole thing today with my friend Steve. No trail today up or done which means a lot of bushwacking.
